Venice Italy, well what can I say, this is a place that if you get a chance of visiting take it. Surprising, it was like stepping back in time thing the only thing that indicated that I was not back in the Medieval times was the tourists. It is a place made up of 118 small islands separated by canals and connected by over 400 bridges and located in the Venetian Lagoon. Fifty-five thousand people live in this historical city.
My husband and I took the trip in celebration of my Birthday and Anniversary, and we were not disappointed. We had a suite at the Royal Palace Hotel close to San Marco Piazza, and the staff were friendly and polite, the rooms cleaned every day, breakfasts were typically continental the only complaint I would have do not bother with the rubbery microwaved omelettes. Dining at the square itself is costly and we had been forewarned of this, so we ate in the many smaller restaurants that lined the canals or were situated in small squares dotted all over the island making eating out more affordable.
Everywhere you go, there are small narrow passageways, and it is easy to get lost; we circled the
Bridge three times before we eventually found it. One thing I would suggest to the ladies is to wear flat shoes tottering about in heels can be dangerous with the uneven flagstones. The young tourists had us in fits of laughter everywhere we went there were people taking selfies, or standing in the usual leg in front pose to make themselves look slimmer. Like many that enjoy bombing others photos myself and my wrinkly hubby bombed many a picture too, I can imagine these tourists saying “Who the heck are those old people.”
As there are no cars allowed on the Islands, the air is fresh, no fumes or pollution. I must admit Venice turned out to be one of the best trips we have taken; we never stopped laughing. We enjoyed it so much and can not wait to return.
